About Tiltanic
Tiltanic is a small game that runs in your browser. Its tagline says it well: “A tiny boat. You rock your phone. You confidently make everything worse.”
The idea
You tilt your phone, and the sea in the game sloshes like water in a tank. A tiny boat rides on that water. Your job is to bring it through the gates. It sounds easy. It is not. Water keeps every push that you give it, so a big move now becomes a wave later.
We wanted a game that you understand in one second and keep trying for a long time. A try can be very short, so the next try is always one tap away. Each day brings a new course. Everyone who plays on the same date gets the same course, so you can compare scores.
Tiltanic works best on a phone, because you tilt it. See how to play for the details.
How it is made
Tiltanic is an independent game. It is not made by a big studio. It is written as plain code for the browser, with no game engine and no code libraries. The water is a small physics model: three waves that swing at different speeds, like water in a tank. Your tilt pushes the water, and the water lifts and lowers the boat. The code also draws the boat, the sea and the sky, and it makes the music. Each sea has its own style of music, and each day has its own tune. The look is a cartoon in the style of the 1930s.
The game and these pages come in 14 languages. The game starts in the language of your browser. You can change it with the globe button on the title screen.
The boat has a name and a story too. Read the story of Boatie.
