Help and questions
Here are answers to common problems. If yours is not here, write to us. The last answer tells you how.
Tilt does not work. What can I do?
Tilt needs a phone or a tablet with a motion sensor, and a browser that lets the page use it. These three things often get in the way:
- An iPhone or an iPad asks if the page may use motion. You must say yes. See the iPhone steps.
- An Android browser can block motion sensors for the site. See the Android steps.
- Some in-app browsers, such as the ones in TikTok or Instagram, hide tilt. Open the game in Safari or Chrome.
Until tilt works, you can steer by dragging. See how to steer.
Tilt does not work on my iPhone or iPad.
The first time you tap “set sail”, iOS asks if the page may use motion. Say yes. If you tapped “Don’t Allow”, iOS often keeps that answer until you close the browser app fully. Then follow these steps:
- Close the browser app fully: swipe up from the bottom of the screen and flick the app away. On an iPhone with a Home button, press it two times, then flick the app away.
- Open the browser app again. The page is still there.
- Tap “set sail” and say yes to motion.
Tilt does not work on my Android phone.
In Chrome, follow these steps:
- Tap the menu button (the three dots), then “Settings”, “Site settings” and “Motion sensors”.
- Switch it on. If tiltanic.com is under “Not Allowed”, tap it and pick “Allow”.
- Come back to the game.
Brave blocks tilt on every site by default, so do the same steps there. In Brave, private tabs never get tilt. In other browsers, allow motion sensors for tiltanic.com in the site settings.
Which browsers work? Can I play on a computer?
Tiltanic runs in current versions of Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge. A very old browser may not run it. You can also play on a computer, or on a phone with no motion sensor. See how to steer.
Is Tiltanic free? Do I need an account?
Yes, Tiltanic is free. It has no account, no signup and no app to install, and it sells nothing. It never asks for your camera, microphone or location. It asks for motion sensors so that tilt works. The game may ask if you want notes. If you say yes, your browser also asks about notifications.
Does it work offline?
Mostly yes. Open the game once with a connection, and your browser keeps a copy. After that, the game starts without a connection, and the daily course still works, because it comes from the date. The leaderboard, crews, notes and bot ghosts need a connection.
How do I add Tiltanic to my home screen?
An icon on your home screen opens the game in full screen, like an app.
- iPhone and iPad (Safari): tap “Share”. In newer versions, first tap the three dots. Scroll down, tap “Add to Home Screen”, then tap “Add”.
- Android: open the browser menu and tap “Install” or “Add to Home screen”. In Samsung Internet, tap “Add page to”, then “Home screen”.
Where is my progress kept? Can I move it?
Your progress stays on your device. The game keeps it in the local storage of your browser, which is a small space for the data of a site. It holds your best score, streak, gifts, name and settings. Tiltanic has no accounts, so we cannot restore it for you. The privacy policy lists everything that is stored.
It is gone when you clear the site data, close a private window, or change browser or phone. The game has no export. To ask about data on our servers, write to privacy@tiltanic.com.
On iPhone and iPad, Safari can erase the data of a site that you did not visit for about a week. A home-screen app is not under this rule, so your save should last longer there. Nothing can promise that a save stays.
When you add the game from Safari, it tries to carry your save into the app. It may also copy a backup to your clipboard. The clipboard is the place where your phone keeps text that you copy.
How does the daily board work? What are captain names?
Each day has one leaderboard for the daily course, with the top 10 captains. Open it with “today’s leaderboard” on the title screen. A new board starts at midnight on your clock. The game sends your best run of the day, and the server replays it to check the score. If your score is missing, one of these may be the reason:
- You are still in the warm-up. Warm-up runs do not count.
- The run was not on today’s course.
- You were offline. The score waits on your phone.
- Your phone clock is more than one day wrong. The server refuses the run.
Every player starts with a name from the game’s own lists, such as “admiral soggy”. To type your own name, tap the pencil beside your name on the leaderboard. On the leaderboard and in crews, other players never see a typed name. They see a name that the game makes. A dare link does carry your name, so a friend who opens it sees that name.
Why can a friend see my score? How do I stop it?
When you play a friend’s dare, or a friend plays yours, you join a crew. A crew is a small group of up to 8 phones. The game sends your best run of the day to the crew. Members see your score and a captain name from the game’s own lists, never a name that you typed. Before each run, the game tells you who sees your score. To stop it:
- Open “today’s leaderboard” and tap the “crew” tab. No “crew” tab means you are not in a crew.
- Tap the switch “friends see my score”. It changes from “on” to “off”.
- Or tap “leave crew”, then tap again to confirm. This deletes your part of the crew.
Why is there no music?
The sound may be off. How to play explains the three states of the sound button. In Arabic and Urdu, the game starts with sounds and no music. Tap the button until it says “Music and sounds”.
