Tilt does not work. What can I do?

Tilt needs an iPhone or an iPad with a motion sensor. If tilt does not work, try these two things:

• Close the app fully: swipe up from the bottom of the screen and flick the app away. On an iPhone with a Home button, press it two times, then flick the app away. Then open the app and tap “set sail” again.
• Look in the App Store for an update of the app, and install it.

Is Tiltanic free? Do I need an account?

Yes, Tiltanic is free to play. It has no account and no signup. If you want more, you can buy the pirate pack once, inside the app. The pack gives two pirate outfits for your boat, 4 pirate titles and your pirate boat on the board. You do not need it to play. See the pirate pack.

It never asks for your camera, microphone or location. It uses the motion sensors so that tilt works.

What is the pirate pack? How do I get it back?

The pirate pack is an optional purchase that you pay for once. It gives you two pirate outfits for your boat, 4 pirate titles for your name (pirate, buccaneer, corsair and sea queen), your pirate boat on the board and no ads. They are pictures and words only: they do not change how the boat sails, the score or your rank. You do not need the pack to play. Tiltanic is made by one person, and this pack keeps it going.

You find the pack in “my boat”, on the pirate tab. Apple shows the price for your country, with taxes, before you pay. You pay with your Apple account, and Apple sends you the receipt.

The pack belongs to your Apple account. On a new iPhone or iPad, or after you install the app again, open the pirate tab and tap the button to restore purchases. Apple then gives the pack back to the app. There is no key to type.

Apple handles refunds, under its own rules. To ask for one, open reportaproblem.apple.com with your Apple account. The terms have the other rules.

Does it work offline?

Mostly yes. The game is inside the app, so it starts without a connection, and the daily course still works, because it comes from the date. The leaderboard, crews and bot ghosts need a connection.

Where is my progress kept? Can I move it?

Your progress stays on your device. The app keeps it in its own storage on your phone. It holds your best score, streak, gifts, name and settings. Tiltanic has no accounts, so we cannot restore it for you. The privacy policy lists everything that is stored.

It is gone when you delete the app. If you change phone, a backup of your old iPhone or iPad can bring it back. iOS may put the app’s storage in an iCloud backup or in a backup on your computer. If you set up the new phone from that backup, your progress comes along. If you set it up as a new phone, it does not. Apple makes and keeps that backup, and you control it in your phone’s settings. How does the daily board work? What are captain names?

Each day has one leaderboard for the daily course, with the top 10 captains. Open it with “today’s leaderboard” on the title screen. A new board starts at midnight on your clock. The game sends your best run of the day, and the server replays it to check the score. If your score is missing, one of these may be the reason:

• You are still in the warm-up. Warm-up runs do not count.
• The run was not on today’s course.
• You were offline. The score waits on your phone.
• Your phone clock is more than one day wrong. The server refuses the run.

Every player starts with a name from the game’s own lists, such as “admiral soggy 7”. To pick another name, tap the pencil beside your name on the leaderboard. Choose a title, a word and a number from the lists, or tap the dice. You cannot type a name, so nobody sees a rude name. The pirate pack adds 4 pirate titles. A dare link carries your name as three numbers, so a friend who opens it sees your name in their own language.

Why can a friend see my score? How do I stop it?

When you play a friend’s dare, or a friend plays yours, you join a crew. A crew is a small group of up to 40 phones. The game sends your best run of the day to the crew. Members see your score and a captain name from the game’s own lists. You cannot type a name. Before each run, the game tells you who sees your score. To stop it:

• Open “today’s leaderboard” and tap the “crew” tab. No “crew” tab means you are not in a crew.
• Tap the switch “crew sees my score”. It changes from “on” to “off”.
• Or tap “leave crew”, then tap again to confirm. This deletes your part of the crew.

Why is there no music?

The sound may be off. How to play explains the three states of the sound button. In Arabic and Urdu, the game starts with sounds and no music. Tap the button until it says “Music and sounds”.
